ALBUM „MONKEY MOMENTS“ (2023/11/24)
The producer, songwriter and DJ duo from Vienna (“Dan the Man” and “Funky Monkey”) originally have their roots in pop and alternative rock. With the Man vs Monkey project, the bridge to dance music has now been built. They have never forgotten their roots: every song should always contain at least one organic instrument (piano, guitar), giving the tracks a very special flair.
The first album single „DGAF*“ landed 400,000 streams on Spotify, number 10 on the iTunes Pop Charts in Austria, No. 7 of the international Spotify SubmitHub.com Electronic Charts a respectable success. Her single “Better than that” was the start of radio airplay in Austria, which continued with the singles “Let it ride” and “When I’m 22” (including Hitradio Ö3, Kronehit). A total of over 1,000 airplays on radio stations in five different countries followed. With the released tracks, the duo is making people sit up and take notice with well over a million streams on Spotify. And Apple Music is also a fan of Man vs Monkey. The singles “Lost” and “Different Story” were featured on two major editorial playlists.
The album release of “MONKEY TIMES” with 18 songs is the first major milestone. In addition to pop/dance tracks, the album also contains two acoustic versions that underline the songwriting class of Man vs Monkey. Incidentally, the songs were all written, texted and produced by the two boys themselves at a distance of 8,200 km when Dan (Daniel Logar) lived in Seoul (South Korea) and Funky Monkey lived in Vienna. During this time, 45 songs were created via Zoom, which were then written and produced in joint sessions.
Each song was created in collaboration with different singers. Among others, Chris Cron, the lead singer of the 2010 chart-topper “Meleé” was won for the single “See you again”. In addition to Marie Font, who comes from LA, other artists from the USA were brought on board (okafuwa, Zie and bymia). But some Austrian artists can also be found on the album. Emma-Mo, Flo Fin, Pia Miller and Viktoria Liv were able to convince incredibly strong voices to work together.
In collaboration with the Tyrolean boys from Wild Culture, who fine-tuned the album’s sound, Man vs Monkey worked on their debut album for a total of 3 years. Man vs Monkey would like to thank the Austrian Music Fund and the SKE Fund for their great support.

Grammy nominated producer Ill Factor (Sia, Kygo, Justin Timberlake,…), says about „DGAF*“: „Great vocal line, […] great drop, all around great stuff – I am really curious to hear more!“. US-blogger Lefuturewave writes: “…DGAF* is a real masterpiece. I adore the catchy vibes, the chorus will stick in your mind…Without any doubt I can say that DGAF* is a smashing hit, you will love it,…”. And LA-based music blogger LAonLock states: “This song is just fun. Sure it´s about cheating and remorse, but the video and lyrics provide insta-revenge and in a perfect world, all would-be broken hearts would be dealt with so easily.”

Don´t you feel the monkey inside?
It was a crazy “Hangover”- like night out in the city of Vienna. Strolling through bars and clubs, Dan and his friends had lots of fun playing around with a monkey mask and learning a little too much about the dark side of life that night. The friends and musicians decided to let this night be the starting point of a new era: Man vs Monkey was born.
The Austrian songwriters, producers and DJ duo who have their roots in Pop and Alternative Rock with over 200 songs written, are now building the bridge between the genres of pop and dance, letting their roots influence their new style. Organic “real” instruments are added to the electronic sound of Daniel Logar (aka Dan the Man) and Funky Monkey to give their music its emotional base. Lyrically, their songs revolve around the classic black and white theme of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. They play with the both sides of mankind – the bright and lively, as well as the dark and sinister one. Man vs Monkey ironically put those in the stocks who behave conceited and consider themselves superior. The monkey mask underlines their story visually and shows that ultimately, there is a crazy monkey waiting to be unchained inside everyone of us.
